INTRODUCTION OF COMMON ACUPUNCTURE MANEUVER
Acupuncture maneuver is the key to affect therapeutic effect different acupuncture maneuver can make the patients to have the different predicted sensation. Qi’s arrival can produce needle sensation, the doctors can feel out looseness or tight heavy sensation in the low part of the needle; the patient has the feeling of pain, numbness, swell, heavy which in certain position and spread in certain direction. Exert different degree of acupuncture maneuver to activate meridian adjust meridian and organ function, reach the purpose of replenishing the deficient health-Qi and eliminating excess evils.
(1) Reinforcing-reducing by entwisting
Reinforcing and reducing is distinguished depending on the amplitude and speed of entwisting. Insert the needle, when entwisting angle is small, the exerting force is small, the frequency is slow, it is reinforcing maneuver, contrarily it is reducing maneuver. Reinforcing and reducing can also be distinguished depending on direction of entwisting, left entwisting is reinforcing, right entwisting is reducing. left entwisting means entwist forward by thumb with heavy force and fast speed, entwist backward by thumb with light force and low speed. Contrarily it is right entwisting.
(2) Tonification-reduction achieved by lifting-inserting
Reinforcing and reducing is distinguished depending on the force and speed of Iifting-inserting.Lift the needle with light force and low speed insert the needle with heavy force and fast speed , it is Reinforcing maneuver. Contrarily it is reducing maneuver.
(3) Strengthening-rducing by slow-quick needling
Reinforcing and reducing is distinguished depending on the speed of inserting and withdrawing. Insert the needle gently, withdraw the needle rapidly, it is reinforcing maneuver. Contrarily it is reducing maneuver.
(4) Mild reinforcing-attenuating
Insert the needle and get "Qi", exert even force. Insert ,lift and entwist with medium speed, the needle sensation is mild, withdraw the needle with medium speed. This maneuver is used for the disease which is not obviously for real and unreal. Reach the effect to get "Qi". Do not realize reinforcing and reducing.
(5) Blue dragon wagging tail
It takes "Qi" arrival before the needle tip as first, then make "Qi" movement by wagging needle. It is combined maneuver among ninety six complementary maneuver. It is listed No.1 maneuver in "poetic of gold needle" This maneuver is called "Blue dragon wagging tail" in the book "comprehensive acupuncture introduction". During manipulation, wagging the needle handle just like a dragon wagging its tail. The manipulation maneuvers are basically same for the doctors in Ming dynasty, the difference is only for the manipulation times and applications.
(6) Dark tortoise seeking hole.
The maneuver is constituted of strengthening-rducing by slow-quick needling and maneuver which makes the "Qi" movement in the direction of needle tip. After Inserting the needle and get "Qi", then slantways inset the needle in upper, down, left and right four direction. Insert the needle in shallow, medium and deep three layers ("Qi" is arrival) and withdraw it without pause for each direction. The inserting order is from upper to down, from left to right.
(7) Entwisting maneuver
After insert the needle in acupoint for certain depth, entwisting the needle as it moves back and forward. The angle of entwisting is about 180�-- 360�. Left and right entwisting alternatively. It can not be entwisted in one direction, thus it can cause muscle Entwisting needle and cause pain.
(8) Shaking maneuver
After insert the needle for certain depth, hold the needle handle and wag it, benefit "Qi" arrival. There are two ways of wagging , one is wag the needle when it is uprightness, strengthen sensation of "Qi" another is wag the needle when it is horizontal, make "Qi" spread in certain direction.
(9) Scraping method
After insert the needle in certain depth, the "Qi" is delay, stop the end of needle handle with thumb or index finger , scrap needle handle from bottom to upper with thumbnail, index fingernail or middle fingernail, make "Qi" arrival. This maneuver can make "Qi" arrival, when "Qi" is delay. It can strength the conduction and spread of acupuncture sensation, when "Qi" is arrival.
(10) Trembling maneuver
After insert the needle in certain depth, hold needle handle with thumb, index finger and middle finger. lift-insert and Entwist the needle with small amplitude, high frequency movement make the needle to produce little trembling. Make "Qi" arrival and strengthen needle sensation.
(11) Flying maneuver
After inserting of the needle, "Qi" is delay, hold the needle handle and entwist it with thumb and index finger for several times, then open thumb and index finger. Repeat for several times, like bird open its wing, so it is called flying maneuver. It can make "Qi" arrival and move, strengthen needle sensation.
(12) Shaking maneuver
In the course of retaining needle, knock the needle handle with finger, make it producing little vibration, benefit the "Qi" movemen, strengthen needle sensation.
Skin sensor which is possible
relative to acupuncture stimulation
Gasser and Erlanger(1927) divide pen nerve fiber into A, B, C three type with electronic physiology. A type can be divided into a, B, y, ô four types. Collins (1960) gives different intension electronic stimulation to skin nerve of human body, simultaneously nerve activities and tester’s sensation are been recorded. When stimulation intension is only limited to actuate Aa, B fiber, no matter what change happens to stimulating methods, it can cause touch, knock and vibration sensation; When stimulation intension reach exciting threshold value of Aô fiber, single stimulation can cause certain, sharp, unpleasure sensation. Continuous stimulation can cause certain pain. When stimulation intension is increased enough to activate C type fiber, it can produce unbearable pain. It is obviously, Aa, B type fiber is relative to sense un-harmful mechanical stimulation,Aô and C type fiber is relative to sense harmful mechanical stimulation.
Burgess and Perl (1967) successfully record nerve fiber of special harm sensor of a cat, Aô type fiber happens actuating reaction to rapid pain stimulation. The sensation signal caused by stimulation of injured organ is transmitted by C type fiber (Bessou and Perl,1969). When the temperature is rise, it appears burst discharge and has long time effect. In the skin of human body, the activity which is transmitted into Aô fiber (Adriaensen,1983) and C fiber (Van Hees and Gybels,1972) is been recorded. it is generally regarded, there are three type of special injure sensor in human body: mechanical injure sensor happens reaction to high threshold mechanical stimulation; cold injure sensor happens actuating reaction to low temperature(10°C ) stimulation; multi-injure sensor happens reaction to multi injure stimulation.
C-multi-injure sensor exist in all animal research, the feature is first described By Bessou and Perl(1969), there is steady actuating reaction to harmful heat, press and chemical substance. The sensation area of this type sensor is small, less than 1 square mm. For the human, the sensation area of sensor is 2 square mm . The sensation area is constituted with several sensation points apart. Its property is similar to Aô Mechanical sensor with high threshold. (Beitel and Dubner,1976; Kumazawa and Perl,1977;Torebjork,1974; Van Hees and Gybels,1972; Jorum,1989). C-multi-injure sensor exist in skin with fur or no, it is dense for later.
For the human, there is Aô-multi-injure sensor, they are sensitive to mechanical stimulation(Adriaensen,1983).
Nerve cell of spinal back which is
possible relative to acupuncture stimulation
Acupuncture stimulation is mainly actuate particular nerve cell of spinal, these nerve cell is located in layer IV~VI, but mainly in layer V, the sensation area of nerve cell behave different sensitivity to mechanical stimulation. In the center of sensation area, it can produce reaction not only to injured stimulation, but also to un injured stimulation. In the edge area, there is no reaction to injured stimulation. These nerve cell can produce reaction to different type stimulation, but intensity of reaction is depend on intensity of stimulation, but intensity of reaction is increased with intensity of stimulation (Hillman and Wall, 1969; Mendell,1966; Wagman and Price, 1969; Wall,1967). The relation of intension-reaction is exponent relation (Kenshalo 1979).
These nerve cell also react to organ stimulation.
View from the research of single fiber, this type nerve cell can produce actuating reaction to all impulse(type Aa, B, ô and C) transmitted into fiber, so people call this type nerve cell as broad power nerve cell. All the sight sensation are transmitted to the same nerve cell, so it is called concentrative nerve cell.
This type nerve cell takes reaction to the mechanical, electrical, heat and chemical stimulation, the reaction is stronger as stimulation is stronger. This type nerve cell has special distinguishing ability to the injury intension.

The responce of nerve cell is increased as the intention of electric needle is increased. After reaching a flat step, it falls.
Within 7 minutes, response of nerve cell rises and reaches a flat step, then it falls, 17 minutes later, to the second flat step, it shows that there is an applicability for electric needle.
