Mr. Pei-jen Hau, a graduate from Kyushu Imperial University. Japan, was born in Haicheng, Liaoning Province in 1917. His family originally came from Changli County. Hebei Province. When he was very young, Mr. Han began to learn painting from Mr. Li Zhongchang of Hebei, and later, learned art from Mr. Huang Binhong and Zheng Shiqiao of Shanghai. Since he immigrated from Hong Kong to California in 1956, he has been engaged in teaching traditional Chinese painting.

He initiated the founding of The American Society for the Advancement of Chinese Arts in 1980, with its purpose being to promote Chinese art and culture. His efforts were joined by both Chinese and American people. In 1981 he was elected as the life-long honorary president of the society, and in 1987, he was made a honorary professor for Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts.
